Scholarship Guidelines

A $1,000 scholarship is awarded to a graduating York County high school senior who has been accepted at a 4 year Virginia school. The $500 scholarship is awarded to a graduating high school senior who has been accepted at a 2-year or Vocational school in Virginia. The $500 scholarship will be given to a 4 year college student if no 2 year/Vocational application is received. The 2015 awards will be going to students at York, Tabb, or Grafton High School. The award is not renewable.

1. The applicant must be accepted by and attend a Virginia state supported college or university.

2. The applicant must have an overall grade point average of at least 2.5 on a 4.0 scale. In addition to academic achievement, the applicant will be judged on the basis of financial need, extracurricular activities, and service to the school and community.

The scholarship recipient will be selected by the Education Department of the Yorktown Woman’s Club. The award will be announced at the May general meeting of the Club and on Awards Night at the school. The school will be notified prior to the dates of these meetings so that arrangements can be made for the presentation.

A check for the scholarship will be sent directly to the college or university designated by the recipient and deposited to his/her account. It is the responsibility of the recipient to furnish the Club with documentation of his/her acceptance at the college or university.

Students applying for these scholarships should submit a Yorktown Woman’s Club Scholarship application and school transcript on or before Monday, March 30, 2015. Return to Counselor or mail to Sue Gorski, 302 Artillery Road, Yorktown, VA 23692.
